Mérida, Yucatán — The company Toros Yucatán announced its departure from the Coloso de Reforma bullring today. In a statement, the firm declared, "Today we close a cycle at the Plaza de Toros Mérida. Eight years of history, tradition, and shared emotions with our beloved Yucatecan fans."
"Thank you for every afternoon, for every applause, and for being part of this journey that will always remain in our memory," stated the company, which is directed by Alberto Hagar Goff.
After eight years at the helm of the Plaza de Toros Mérida, Toros Yucatán announces its retirement from the administration of the Reforma bullring.
"During this cycle, historic afternoons were experienced with the presence of great figures of bullfighting, both national and international, who gave category to the plaza and set the pulse for the fans," the statement read. "We kept alive traditions that are the essence of the Mérida bullring, such as the New Year's Rejones Bullfight, the emblematic Anniversary White Bullfight, and the novilladas that provided space for new generations and homegrown bullfighters."
The statement continued, "Every afternoon was a commitment to the festival, to the fans, and to the history of the plaza, always seeking to enhance its prestige and bring quality spectacles to Yucatán. Today, with the pride of having fulfilled and having left an indelible mark in these eight years, we wish success to those who take the reins of the plaza, always for the good of the Yucatecan fans and bullfighting. Toros Yucatán says goodbye with gratitude and with the certainty of having been part of the greatness of this plaza."
The Plaza de Toros Mérida has a capacity for 6,500 spectators and its construction is inspired by the Plaza de Toros de Granada in Spain.
