Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Authorities have formally charged three individuals—two men and one woman—for their alleged involvement in drug trafficking and an attempted murder in this popular tourist destination.
The State Prosecutor’s Office announced the charges, which stem from a coordinated operation with Playa del Carmen Municipal Police in the Luis Donaldo Colosio neighborhood. Officials said the suspects are linked to a criminal group operating in the area.
Two of the detainees are also under investigation for their probable participation in an attempted homicide that occurred on February 28 in the Paseos de Xcacel subdivision.
Evidence and Seizures
During the operation, authorities seized:
- Methamphetamine
- Marijuana
- Crack cocaine and crystal meth
- Two firearms with loaded magazines
- Ammunition for exclusive use by the armed forces
- A motorcycle
Investigators said one of the seized weapons matches ballistic evidence from the February 28 shooting.
Judicial Process
A control judge ruled the arrests legal and ordered the three suspects—identified as José Antonio “N,” José Alberto “N,” and Paula Viridiana “N”—to face formal charges. The judge imposed preventive detention while the criminal case proceeds.
Authorities noted that the two male suspects worked for a private security company at a residential complex.
