Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — December 21, 2025 Thousands of residents and national and international visitors filled Fifth Avenue on Saturday night for Playa del Carmen’s Grand Christmas Parade, one of the marquee events of the city’s Magical Christmas 2025 holiday program. Organized by the municipal government led by Mayor Estefanía Mercado, the parade transformed the city’s main pedestrian corridor into a festive showcase of music, dance, lights, and holiday cheer.
The parade route began on Avenida Constituyentes and made its way south along Fifth Avenue, concluding at Plaza 28 de Julio, where families gathered to enjoy performances, photo opportunities with Christmas characters, and several holiday attractions. Among the most popular was the largest temporary ice rink in Quintana Roo, a centerpiece of this year’s celebrations that has drawn steady crowds since opening earlier this month.
Representing Mayor Mercado, Eduardo Asencio, honorary president of the Playa del Carmen DIF System, addressed the crowd at the plaza. He поted that the Christmas season offers an opportunity to reinforce family values, solidarity, generosity, and hope, and encouraged both residents and visitors to take part in the full slate of holiday activities scheduled through the end of the year.
Also in attendance were Tourism Secretary Estefanía Hernández, Social Justice and Citizen Participation Secretary Deyanira Martínez, Economic Development and Investment Attraction Secretary Antón Bojórquez, and Ernesto Martínez Cuéllar, general director of the Municipal Institute of Culture and Arts, who coordinated the parade’s artistic program.
The Grand Christmas Parade is part of Magical Christmas 2025, a citywide initiative running from early December through December 31. The program includes free cultural performances, concerts, children’s activities, artisan markets, and a New Year’s Eve celebration at Parque Fundadores, all supported by coordinated security operations across the city.
Municipal officials say the holiday program not only strengthens community ties and preserves local traditions, but also supports tourism and the local economy during one of Playa del Carmen’s busiest seasons. With hotel occupancy already high and thousands attending public events, Magical Christmas 2025 is reinforcing Playa del Carmen’s image as a family-friendly, inclusive destination that blends cultural celebration with year-end tourism momentum.
