Tulum, Quintana Roo — A teacher from Felipe Carrillo Puerto won first place in the Gran Desafío del Caribe fishing tournament in Tulum, beating more than 150 competitors from across the Yucatan Peninsula.
Jesús Martínez Castillo secured victory by catching a crevalle jack, one of the most prized species in the competition, organizers announced.
The tournament brought together sport fishers for a day that combined competition with social activities, focusing on responsible fishing practices.
After his win, Martínez Castillo praised the organizers and sponsors, noting the event’s conditions and the participation of competitors from across the region.
With this result, the Felipe Carrillo Puerto representative establishes himself among the region’s top competitors in an event that forms part of the Mexican Caribbean’s sport fishing calendar.
