Cancun, Quintana Roo — A taxi driver was killed in a shooting Tuesday night in the Colonia Mexico neighborhood, prompting a large police response.
The driver was behind the wheel of a taxi with license number 2517 when he was attacked on Avenida Independencia, about 700 meters from Avenida Jose Lopez Portillo, just past a police inspection checkpoint.
Residents alerted authorities after hearing multiple gunshots. Witnesses found the man wounded in the driver’s seat and called 911 for medical assistance.
Paramedics arrived but pronounced the driver dead at the scene from his injuries.
Municipal police officers cordoned off the area to preserve evidence. Investigators from the State Prosecutor’s Office processed the scene and removed the body as part of an ongoing investigation.
