Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A serious collision in Playa del Carmen left a taxi driver from the "Lázaro Cárdenas del Río" union injured after his vehicle crashed into a pickup truck, which also struck a vehicle belonging to the Chedraui supermarket chain. At least two vehicles were left nearly destroyed.
The incident occurred on the afternoon of Friday, August 29, in the Gonzalo Guerrero neighborhood, where it was reported that three vehicles had collided on 38th Street in this city.
According to witness reports of the accident, the driver of a white pickup truck failed to obey a stop sign and was the one who caused the incident, which resulted in injuries to the driver from the "Lázaro Cárdenas del Río" union. The pickup also struck a unit belonging to the supermarket chain.
Following the incident, an emergency call was placed to 911. Municipal Traffic Police officers subsequently arrived on the scene and spoke with those involved. Apparently, none of the parties accepted responsibility for the crash and instead blamed the others. Consequently, the vehicles were impounded pending a determination of fault.
It is noted that the injured taxi driver was treated by paramedics at the scene and apparently did not require transport to a hospital.
