Isla Mujeres — A control judge has formally charged a suspect identified as Eloy "N" for his alleged involvement in the crime of aggravated kidnapping, a case that involves the murder of the victim in the mainland zone of Isla Mujeres.

The State Attorney General's Office (FGE) reported that, after presenting the necessary evidence, it secured the indictment and preventive detention for the accused.

According to the investigation, the events occurred on November 5, when the victim was with three other individuals, including Eloy "N," consuming alcohol and drugs at a residence on Girasoles Street in the Monte de los Olivos neighborhood. The FGE indicated that the four men had a friendly relationship.

At one point during the gathering, a fight broke out that escalated to the point where Eloy "N" and his two accomplices allegedly took the victim's life by asphyxiation through strangulation. Subsequently, they are believed to have buried the body in the backyard of the home.

Despite having murdered the victim, the alleged kidnappers attempted to extort his family members. On November 6, they used the deceased's phone to contact his sister and demand 3,000 pesos for his release.

One day later, the victim's partner received a similar message asking for 5,000 pesos. Later, the extortionists sent another threatening text, warning that "time was running out."

After reviewing the evidence, the judge ruled to formally charge Eloy "N" and imposed a precautionary measure of preventive detention for two years while the judicial process develops. Authorities are continuing the investigation to locate the other two individuals implicated in the crime.
