Mérida, Yucatán — Authorities in Mérida have arrested Arturo Antonio “N,” a 19-year-old man accused of rape, domestic violence, and attempted femicide against his ex-girlfriend in Cancún, Quintana Roo. The arrest followed the circulation of a surveillance video on social media showing the suspect assaulting the victim.
Escalating Violence Leads to Arrest
According to a press release from the Quintana Roo Attorney General’s Office, the suspect fled to Mérida after the victim filed a formal complaint. The arrest was conducted with support from the Quintana Roo Secretary of Public Security (SSP).
The victim, who had been in a relationship with Arturo Antonio, reported enduring psychological and emotional abuse before the violence turned physical. On November 3, 2024, the suspect allegedly beat and choked her inside a nightclub on Boulevard Kukulcán in Cancún.
Despite a restraining order prohibiting him from approaching the victim, Arturo Antonio forcibly entered her home in Supermanzana 330 on June 22, 2025, where he assaulted and raped her.
Legal and Investigative Actions
Following the initial complaint, authorities activated a comprehensive victim support protocol, including psychological evaluations and forensic examinations. Federal Deputy Sergio Mayer urged Quintana Roo Attorney General Raciel López Salazar to prevent the case from escalating into a femicide.
A nationwide alert was issued to all 31 state attorney general’s offices, and Interpol was requested to issue a Red Notice to locate the suspect.
Public Outcry and Official Response
The case gained attention after the surveillance footage of the assault circulated online. The Quintana Roo Attorney General’s Office confirmed the arrest in a social media post, stating that Arturo Antonio could face charges of attempted femicide and gender-based violence.
The victim remains under protective measures as the investigation continues.
