Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — The Municipal Civil Protection Coordination of Isla Mujeres has confirmed the temporary closure of the Super Akí grocery store, located in the central zone of Isla Mujeres, due to its failure to obtain the required civil protection permits.

Inspection Reveals Non-Compliance

Authorities reported that during a verification visit, inspectors found the establishment had not renewed the necessary documentation to ensure the safety of its facilities and customers. As a preventive measure, officials placed closure seals on the premises.

Carlos Gamboa Ortiz, Civil Protection Coordinator of Isla Mujeres, emphasized that this action is part of ongoing municipal operations to reinforce order and prevent potential risks in high-traffic areas.

Authorities Stress Preventive Intent

Gamboa Ortiz explained that while many businesses have complied with civil protection regulations following inspections, others—including Super Akí—have not demonstrated the same commitment. He clarified that the closure is not intended as a punitive or revenue-generating measure but as a precaution to uphold safety standards.

“This is not about fines or sanctions for the sake of sanctions,” he stated. “It’s about preventing tragedies before they happen.”

The closure will remain in effect until the business resolves the violations identified by Civil Protection. Until then, the store will remain closed to the public.
