Tulum, Quintana Roo — An active agent of the State Attorney General's Office was involved in a multi-vehicle collision on Saturday morning on Tulum Avenue, at the intersection with Cobá Avenue, after allegedly losing control of his vehicle while driving under the influence of alcohol. The incident left three vehicles with material damages and caused significant traffic congestion in one of the municipality's busiest areas.
According to a report from the Municipal Traffic Directorate, the accident occurred around 6:00 a.m., when surveillance officers responded to report PDC250094379, which alerted authorities to a crash involving several vehicles. At the scene, officials located a blue Volkswagen Tiguan, license plate GZH-713-C from the state of Guerrero, owned by the FGE official; a white Toyota Hiace, license plate B-610-TML from Quintana Roo; and a black and green Vento 250 motorcycle, license plate 20UJX5.
Witnesses indicated that the Tiguan was traveling at excessive speed and crossed into the oncoming lane, first striking the transport unit and then the motorcycle. Traffic officers detained the driver, who showed clear signs of alcohol intoxication.
The incident forced a partial closure of Tulum Avenue for over an hour while forensic experts carried out their work and the damaged vehicles were removed. The situation resulted in long lines of cars and considerable delays in the flow of traffic through the downtown area.
The responsible party was transferred to the Public Safety base and subsequently made available to the Public Prosecutor's Office to determine his legal status. As of the close of this edition, the State Attorney General's Office has not issued an official position or informed whether the agent will be temporarily suspended from his duties while the investigation progresses.
The event has generated outrage among Tulum residents, who are demanding an exemplary sanction and a transparent process.
"There cannot be privileges for those who are supposed to enforce justice," stated downtown residents, warning that this type of incident erodes citizen trust in the institutions responsible for security and the administration of justice.
