Tulum, Quintana Roo — A man suffered severe injuries after two assailants on a motorcycle attacked him with a machete in the 2 de Octubre neighborhood of Tulum on Sunday.
The incident occurred at the intersection of Aurora Sur Street and Juanek Avenue, where the victim was outside his home when the attackers surprised him. Witnesses reported that the assailants threatened the man and immediately tried to injure him with a bladed weapon.
The victim managed to block a direct machete strike with his hand, sustaining severe wounds. A second attacker then joined the assault, and together they beat the man until he collapsed with multiple injuries.
Neighbors, alarmed by the screams, came to his aid and called emergency services. Red Cross paramedics arrived at the scene to provide care and rushed him to the IMSS Bienestar hospital, where his condition remains critical.
Municipal and state police officers launched an operation in the area to locate the perpetrators, who escaped. No arrests have been reported so far, and authorities continue to investigate the attack.
