Staff of Migrant Crimes Unit in Quintana Roo Alleges Harassment, Nepotism by Director

Chetumal, Quintana Roo — Staff of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Crimes Against Migrants have called on Governor Mara Lezama to intervene, alleging workplace harassment, intimidation, and threats from the unit’s director, José Juan Chilón Colorado. They also demand an investigation into nepotism, claiming the director’s wife and son are on the agency’s payroll.

In a statement posted on social media, the employees said they have filed complaints about Chilón Colorado’s conduct with the state prosecutor general, Raciel López Salazar, but no action has been taken due to the close relationship between López Salazar and the governor.

“If a public official uses alleged connections to intimidate staff or discourage complaints, that must be investigated with full seriousness,” the employees wrote.

They described a climate of job instability and harassment, citing remarks by Chilón Colorado that it was not in their interest to have him as an enemy “because his enemies are three meters underground.” The staff said no female public servant should have to work under threats, intimidation, or fear of reprisals.

The employees expressed confidence that the current administration would act with impartiality and legality, demonstrating that no public official is above the law and that the government’s commitment to women, labor rights, and justice is reflected in actions, not just words.
