Playa del Carmen, Mexico — A short circuit inside a grocery store located in the Colosio neighborhood mobilized firefighters as the location began to catch fire. Residents living in the surrounding area noticed smoke and raised the alarm.
The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on 52nd Street at 25th Avenue, when several people noticed smoke coming from the bottom of the door of a grocery store that was closed.
They immediately requested the presence of firefighters, who went to the scene to combat the fire, which had already advanced into part of the interior structure and burned some appliances. Fortunately, the report prevented the fire from getting out of control.
It appears to have been generated by a short circuit, as refrigeration containers and other appliances remain connected for many hours in this type of store.
This was not the only incident firefighters attended to. Also around midnight, in the La Guadalupana neighborhood, they were dispatched to help a family that reported a fire in their living room caused by a ceiling fan.
