Shakira Sets New Attendance Record with 400,000 Fans at Mexico City’s Zócalo

A massive crowd fills Mexico City's Zócalo during Shakira's free concert.

Mexico City — Colombian superstar Shakira set a new attendance record in Mexico City on Sunday, drawing an estimated 400,000 people to the Zócalo for a free concert that capped her record-breaking tour in the country.

The event marked the finale of her “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour” in Mexico, where she previously sold out 13 shows at the GNP Seguros Stadium, moving over 800,000 tickets in the capital alone. That run set a new benchmark for the most sold-out concerts by any artist at the venue.

On March 1, Shakira transformed the historic Zócalo—the city’s main square—into a massive open-air arena. Fans began camping out days in advance to secure spots near the stage, while others watched from screens set up around the historic center. The concert started just after 8 p.m., with the artist arriving earlier in a convoy near the Metropolitan Cathedral.

“Seeing this place so full of you all,” Shakira told the crowd, her voice emotional. “Thank you so much to everyone who has been camping since early under the sun. As always, overcoming all obstacles together with me. Today I have a voice of emotion, of nostalgia, and of gratitude. Because today is the last day here, in our tour in Mexico, in my home.”

She added, “This is a story of love and friendship that we have between us, that I have with Mexico. It can’t be bought with anything. Thanks for all the emotion, for all the joy you have made me live, that you have made me feel. Always so accompanied, so understood, so loved. Definitely, there is no better encounter than a she-wolf with her Mexican pack. Today, here in the Zócalo and always, forever, we are one.”

Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada confirmed the attendance figure, noting that Shakira surpassed the previous Zócalo record of 300,000 set by Los Fabulosos Cadillacs.

The concert featured a world-class production and a setlist spanning her greatest hits and tracks from her latest album, celebrating Latin culture and empowerment before a packed, enthusiastic audience that sang along to every song.
