Seven individuals, including six Brazilians and one Mexican, were recently rescued after being held against their will near the Dunamis neighborhood, according to officials from the Benito Juarez Citizen Security and Traffic Secretariat.
The group was traveling in a rental vehicle they believed to be an Uber. It has been suggested that the rental company is affiliated with the Andrés Quintana Roo union, but this connection is yet to be officially confirmed.
The incident took place near José Lopez Portillo Avenue and the Gas Auto junction, a key access point to the Cancun – Merida highway. A 911 call triggered the alarm, prompting an immediate search by local authorities.
The captors, allegedly involved in union disputes and rivalries with other digital platform services, held the tourists illegally. Four of the victims were transported to the General Hospital Jesús Kumate Rodríguez for medical treatment. The remaining three were taken to the Citizen Security Secretariat to file official complaints.
