Cancún, Quintana Roo — The Senate of the Republic will now decide the next steps after the National Electoral Institute (INE) declared 46 judicial positions vacant due to the appointees' failure to meet the required academic standards. Among these cases is one from Quintana Roo, according to Sergio Bernal Rojas, Executive Vocal of the INE's local executive board in the state.

Jurisdictional Process to Precede Senate Decision

Bernal Rojas clarified that the Electoral Tribunal will first address any jurisdictional challenges related to the vacancies. Subsequently, the Senate will determine the appropriate legal course of action.

"In this regard, the information will naturally be made public, as the General Council's agreement is already a matter of public record," Bernal Rojas stated. "The Senate will then have to decide, taking into account any potential appeals and the tribunal's rulings."

He emphasized that the Senate holds the ultimate authority to resolve these cases, particularly where eligibility criteria—such as academic performance—were not met.

Quintana Roo Case Highlights Academic Disqualification

One notable case involves Jesymar Castillo Arangute, a former official of the Puerto Morelos municipal government, who was declared ineligible by the INE despite winning the vote for a federal labor judgeship in Quintana Roo.

Castillo Arangute failed to meet the minimum academic average of 9 in subjects relevant to the position, scoring 8.4 in his undergraduate studies and 7.7 in his specialization.

The INE's decision underscores strict adherence to academic qualifications for judicial appointments, leaving the Senate to navigate the legal and procedural implications of the vacancies.
