Akumal — The community of Akumal is on alert following the disappearance of Erasto Vitaliano Jesús Lara Matambu, a 73-year-old man who lives in the locality and suffers from senile dementia. His family reported that he was last seen on Saturday, August 30, 2025, around noon, in the town park.
Originally from Chiapas and a resident of Quintana Roo for several years, Erasto left his home without his whereabouts being known at this time. Due to his health condition, there is a possibility that he is disoriented, which increases the concern among his relatives. It is even considered that he might have attempted to head towards his hometown of Tuxtla Gutiérrez, although this version has not been confirmed.
The search bulletin details that at the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a red shirt with wide blue stripes, denim pants, a cap, and a silver watch. With this description, family and friends are asking the public to be attentive to any clues that could help locate him.
Neighbors have joined the search efforts in a show of solidarity, scouring areas near the center of Akumal and roads connecting to neighboring communities. In parallel, municipal authorities are coordinating efforts with security forces and civil protection to expand the search operation.
The family has requested the collaboration of the citizens of Tulum and surrounding localities, noting that due to his medical condition, Erasto may require immediate help if found. To provide information, the following contact numbers have been enabled: 984 806 7266, 998 205 6004, and 998 355 2802.
The case has generated concern among residents and merchants, who underscore the vulnerability of elderly adults with neurodegenerative conditions, especially in tourist communities like Akumal, where the constant flow of visitors can complicate their location.
Both the family and authorities insist that the priority is to locate Erasto as soon as possible to guarantee his safety and well-being, and they reiterate the call for the public to join the active search.
