Cancún, Quintana Roo — The advocacy group Verdad, Memoria y Justicia de Quintana Roo conducted a search operation in Cancún to locate missing persons, with a focus on the case of Abraham Julián Silva Rivera, who disappeared in July 2023. The group, which currently has over 140 active search files, urged both citizens and authorities to increase efforts in locating the disappeared and identifying unregistered bodies.
Coordinated Search Efforts in High-Traffic Areas
The operation, carried out in coordination with the State Search Commission and under the security oversight of the Mexican Navy, targeted strategic locations such as El Crucero and the maritime zone of Punta Sam. These areas were selected due to their high foot traffic, increasing the likelihood of gathering new leads.
Romana Rivera Ramírez, president of the collective, emphasized the urgency of Abraham Silva Rivera’s case. The 21-year-old suffers from memory loss following an emotional crisis, complicating search efforts. "He has been seen living on the streets, unable to recall personal details or return home," Rivera stated, underscoring the severity of his situation.
Call for Public and Official Action
With more than 140 active search cases, the group stressed that their work relies heavily on community involvement. They urged residents to join alert networks and assist in locating missing individuals. Additionally, the collective used the operation to raise awareness about Quintana Roo’s disappearance crisis, reminding the public that "as long as someone is looking for them, they are not alone."
Rivera also called on authorities to expedite the identification of unregistered bodies at the Forensic Medical Service (SEMEFO), advocating for the use of genetic profiling to improve identification processes. The group reaffirmed its commitment with a clear message: "Our search continues until they are found."
Through these efforts, Verdad, Memoria y Justicia de Quintana Roo continues to amplify the voices of the disappeared, vowing not to rest until answers are uncovered.
