Mexico City — Deputy Ricardo Mejía Berdeja (PT) stated that it falls to the Security Cabinet to provide information regarding the presence of a U.S. military aircraft that landed in Mexican territory last weekend. He emphasized that during a delicate moment for the country, it is important not to generate confusion or contradictions.
“The one who must give the position is the country’s Security Cabinet. There has always been collaboration with the United States, within the framework of various instruments, such as the Mérida Initiative or the Bicentennial Agreement, and it is up to them to give an opinion. Everything must be done within the framework of the Constitution, the law, and the agreements between both nations,” he stated in declarations to the media.
The legislator made these statements during the “National Anti-Corruption System. Presentation of a proposal to reform the general law” Forum, held at the Chamber of Deputies.
When questioned about how the aircraft was allowed to land without the approval of the Senate of the Republic, Mejía Berdeja indicated that the issue must be addressed through parliamentary and legislative channels, so that everything develops in accordance with the law and the powers that correspond to the Senate in matters of bilateral relations within the Congress of the Union.
He reiterated that it will be the Security Cabinet that must set the official position and maintained that, in a context of national unity, he will avoid pronouncements that could generate conflicting interpretations. “We will wait for their position,” he emphasized.
On another topic, regarding electoral reform, the deputy stressed that the official position of the Labor Party will be defined by its national leader and senator Alberto Anaya.
“We will await his opinion. We welcome the meeting with the Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, as part of the dialogue and necessary agreements to maintain cohesion and unity, and so that, if applicable, it is a reform that helps the country,” he concluded.
