Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A group of residents captured a man Monday night in the Real Amalfi neighborhood, accusing him of attempting to assault a minor in a public area.
According to witness accounts, the suspect approached a young girl and led her to a poorly lit section of the neighborhood. A resident noticed the incident and shouted, prompting several neighbors to chase the man.
The suspect was caught on Solidaridad Avenue, where residents held him until municipal police arrived. Officers took statements from those present and arrested the man, turning him over to the State Prosecutor’s Office.
Shortly after, a patrol from the Specialized Group for Attention to Victims of Domestic and Gender Violence (GEAVIG) arrived and spoke with the minor and her parents. All of them boarded the patrol to file a formal complaint.
