Cozumel, Quintana Roo — A rescued dog named Bea became the star of the day for passengers aboard the M/S Disney Dream cruise ship, warmly greeting them at the Punta Langosta terminal as part of an initiative promoting responsible pet adoption.

The event, organized by the Cozumel Humane Society under the name Smooch a Pooch, aimed to raise awareness among visitors about the issue of animal abandonment on the island and encourage the adoption of rescued dogs and cats. Bea, an eight-year-old dog, charmed tourists by offering her paw as they disembarked, eliciting smiles and sparking interest in the organization’s efforts.

Currently available for adoption, Bea was described by volunteers as a calm, affectionate companion ready to join a new home. Luis Reyes, director of the Cozumel Humane Society, noted that while the number of abandoned animals has declined in recent years due to sterilization campaigns, the problem persists and requires ongoing attention.

The organization operates a temporary shelter for rescued pets and hosts events like this to educate both residents and visitors about responsible animal care.
