Bacalar, Quintana Roo — Renán Sánchez Tajonar, a deputy from the Green Party (Partido Verde) in Quintana Roo, has reaffirmed his commitment to defending the Laguna de Bacalar (Lagoon of Bacalar), one of Mexico’s and the world’s most important natural heritage sites.
“The Green Party defends the green causes of Quintana Roo. Today our priority is Bacalar, because the lagoon is at risk: water motorcycles circulate uncontrollably, they do not respect protected zones, clear rules do not exist, and no one is taking responsibility. Meanwhile, pollution grows and the lagoon is dying,” expressed the legislator.
Renán Sánchez Tajonar warned that this situation, besides damaging a unique ecosystem, threatens the responsible tourism that depends on the preservation of the seven colors of Bacalar and the natural wealth that attracts national and international visitors.
“Today more than ever we need to unite to save our lagoon. Bacalar is not alone; it has the Green Party,” he assured.
In this sense, he announced that he will present an initiative from the State Congress to contribute to the care and preservation of the lagoon.
“The future of Quintana Roo depends on how we care for what gives us identity and life. Defending the Laguna de Bacalar is defending our families, our economy, and the environment. Therefore, from the Green Party we reiterate: for the future of Quintana Roo, we are all green,” concluded Renán Sánchez Tajonar.
