Cozumel, Quintana Roo — A law enforcement operation initially targeting illegal narcotics in the Emiliano Zapata neighborhood of Cozumel instead led to the dismantling of a clandestine beer distribution business and the arrest of six individuals, according to official sources.

The raid, conducted by the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), took place at a multi-unit dwelling on 75th Avenue between 6th and 8th Streets. After more than two hours of searching, ministerial agents discovered a stockpile of beer allegedly being sold illegally.

Unexpected Findings

While authorities had focused their efforts on locating drugs, the operation yielded only small quantities of suspected narcotics alongside the large cache of beer. Three men and three women were detained on charges related to the illicit sale of alcoholic beverages.

The operation involved collaboration between the Mexican Army, Navy, and State Police, who assisted ministerial agents in executing the search. A banner was placed on the property’s gate to mark the intervention.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities confirmed that investigations will continue to determine the origin and intended distribution of the seized beer, as well as whether the operation has ties to additional criminal activity. No information has been released regarding the detainees’ criminal records or potential involvement in an organized illegal distribution network.

The FGE stated that the operation remains active and that further measures will be taken based on investigative findings.

Officials conducting the raid

The FGE has not yet disclosed additional details but emphasized that the case remains under investigation.
