Cancún, Mexico — Six artists from Quintana Roo have advanced to the next stage of the federal government’s national singing competition, México Canta, according to an announcement by Mexico’s Secretariat of Culture. The contestants were selected from a pool of 15,115 submissions, with 365 advancing to the next round—320 from Mexico and 45 from the United States.

The Quintana Roo Finalists

The six Quintana Roo participants who qualified are:

  • Aislinn Esther Paz Buenfil, a performer from Bacalar.
  • Alan Javier Ramírez Menéndez, an interpreter from Cancún.
  • Brian Eduardo Valverde Sosa, a singer-songwriter from Tulum.
  • Diego Jesús Cahun Poot, a singer-songwriter from Lázaro Cárdenas.
  • Roberto Cintrón, a singer-songwriter from Cancún.
  • Santiago Manuel Negrete Sánchez, a singer-songwriter also from Cancún.

Competition Phases and Jury

The competition is judged by a panel of notable figures in the music industry, including Regina Orozco, Mónica Vélez, América Sierra, and Javier Ramírez. Guest jurors include Vivir Quintana, Mario Domm, and A.B. Quintanilla, among others.

The next phase, "State Eliminations" (Phase 3), will run from today until August 8, conducted virtually. A total of 48 contestants will advance from the Southern region.

Phase 4, the "Regional Eliminations", will take place from August 17 to September 21 and will be held in person, broadcast on public media and social networks. Judges will select eight semifinalists, with the Grand Final scheduled for October 5 in Durango, where seven winners will be crowned.

Clarifications on Selection Process

The Mexican Music Council explained that the initial selection process aimed to choose 10 projects per Mexican state and 15 per U.S. region (divided into West, Central, and East). However, not all submissions met the competition’s requirements, leading to adjustments.

Ultimately, 320 projects from Mexico and 45 from the U.S. were selected to maintain the competition’s objective: highlighting voices that promote peace through music and their communities.

The Secretariat of Culture retains authority to resolve unforeseen issues, ensuring the contest’s integrity and purpose remain intact.

The competition continues to spotlight emerging talent, with Quintana Roo’s artists now vying for national recognition.
