Quintana Roo, Mexico — As the 2025 school year approaches, parents and guardians in Quintana Roo have raised questions about whether the newly introduced Biometric CURP will be mandatory for student enrollment. The academic year is set to begin on September 1, with some schools already completing registrations while others continue processing documents for students transferring institutions or completing necessary administrative procedures.
Biometric CURP Implementation Timeline
The Biometric CURP, a proposed identity document by Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, aims to enhance citizen security and streamline the search for missing persons. However, Quintana Roo’s educational institutions will not require the document for the upcoming school year, as the official rollout for processing begins on October 16, 2025.
For now, obtaining the Biometric CURP remains voluntary, but it will become mandatory in 2026 for all government procedures, including applications for federal education grants.
How to Obtain the Biometric CURP in Quintana Roo
Residents can apply for the Biometric CURP free of charge at local Civil Registry offices. Required documents include:
- Certified birth certificate
- Valid government-issued ID (voter card or passport)
- Updated CURP
- Proof of residence no older than three months
- Personal email address for tracking
- For minors: accompaniment by a parent, guardian, or tutor with their corresponding CURP
Additional Back-to-School Resources
The state is also hosting Back-to-School Fairs offering discounts on school supplies. Details on locations and dates are available through official channels.
While the Biometric CURP will not affect this year’s enrollment, authorities advise families to prepare for its eventual requirement in future academic and administrative processes.
