Quintana Roo’s Basic Food Basket Among Top 5 Most Expensive

Quintana Roo, Mexico — Quintana Roo ranks among the top five states in the country with the most expensive basic food basket, a result of inflation, with an overall increase of 4.79 percent, according to data from the National Alliance of Small Merchants (ANPEC).

The price escalation has driven the cost of products that form part of the essential consumption for Mexicans to 2,046.45 pesos, which implies a monthly overprice of 25.98 pesos, equivalent to a variation of 1.29%.

The ANPEC statistics indicate that the increase in basic goods had a greater impact in 21 states across the country, with hikes ranging from 4 to 9 percent in supplies that are part of household diets.

It should be noted that the top five states with the most expensive basic food basket is led by Yucatán with an increase in food costs of 8.94 percent; followed by Querétaro with 8.58 percent and then Michoacán with 8.50 percent.

Veracruz joins the list with an increase of 6.32 percent and, finally, Quintana Roo with 4.79 percent, meaning that in these states there is greater pressure on family economies to acquire basic supplies.
