At least 7 people participated in the murder of the Secretary of Security of Tulum, reveals prosecutor

In Tulum, Mexico, at least seven individuals are believed to have been involved in the assassination of José Roberto Rodríguez Bautista, the Secretary of Public Security. The state attorney general, Raciel López Salazar, has vowed to bring those responsible to justice.

During a press conference, Salazar shared updates on the ongoing investigation into the homicide that took place on Saturday night. Two main lines of inquiry have emerged. The first pertains to the security force's recent actions against criminal groups, which have resulted in the arrest of 98 members across Tulum and Playa del Carmen.

The second line of investigation suggests a possible revenge motive, linked to Rodríguez Bautista's previous successful operations against criminal groups. Salazar emphasized that no criminal group is above the law, and the state will ensure justice is served.

Salazar also clarified that there are currently no indications that Rodríguez Bautista's murder is connected to a recent attack on the Attorney General's office in Tulum.

Regarding the sequence of events on Saturday night, Salazar detailed that Rodríguez Bautista left the Municipal Security Secretariat base with two other officers. They arrived at Rodríguez Bautista's residence at 8:30 pm. As one officer was opening the door and the other was retrieving Rodríguez Bautista's belongings, an assassin hiding behind a nearby parked vehicle shot Rodríguez Bautista multiple times from a distance of approximately five meters.

Simultaneously, a second assassin fired from a bush in front of the house, approximately ten meters away, before fleeing the scene. Rodríguez Bautista sustained injuries to his right shoulder, arm, chest, right thigh, and left knee. One of the officers managed to shoot the assassin before he could deliver a fatal shot to Rodríguez Bautista.

A backpack containing 26 .223 caliber cartridges was found nearby. After the attack, Rodríguez Bautista was rushed to a local hospital, where he suffered a cardiac arrest. He was then transferred to the General Hospital in Playa del Carmen, where he suffered two more heart attacks and eventually succumbed to his injuries.
