Mexico City, Mexico — Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa joined fellow state leaders in a meeting with President Claudia Sheinbaum at the National Palace to assess advancements in the IMSS-Bienestar healthcare strategy. The gathering marked a follow-up to discussions held just over two months prior, evaluating public health initiatives eight months into the current administration, which began on May 22 of last year.
Strengthening Healthcare in Quintana Roo
Governor Lezama emphasized the importance of the meeting in reinforcing Mexico’s healthcare system, particularly through the IMSS-Bienestar model. She highlighted the commitment to improving medical services for Quintana Roo residents by aligning future processes with the program’s objectives.
Following the meeting, Lezama stated via social media, "This meeting allows us to continue advancing a profound and humanistic transformation in healthcare, prioritizing those most in need. In Quintana Roo, we are committed to a dignified, free, universal, and high-quality health system. Thanks to the support of the Mexican government, medical care in hospitals and health centers will be strengthened."
IMSS-Bienestar Services in Quintana Roo
The IMSS-Bienestar program provides no-cost, high-quality medical care, pharmaceuticals, and supplies to Mexicans without social security coverage. Patients in Quintana Roo must first visit their nearest IMSS-Bienestar medical center for an initial evaluation. If necessary, they are referred to secondary-level hospitals or, for specialized cases, tertiary-level facilities for further treatment.
The meeting included governors from other states participating in IMSS-Bienestar, underscoring nationwide coordination to enhance healthcare access.
