Cancún, Quintana Roo — State and municipal officials awarded the “Made in Quintana Roo” distinction to 100 small businesses on Monday, highlighting the role of local artisans as economic and cultural drivers for the state.
Governor Mara Lezama presented the awards during an event for the Innovation and Digital Development program, coordinated by the State Economic Development Secretariat (SEDE) and the University of the Caribbean (Unicaribe). Cancún Mayor Ana Paty Peralta attended the ceremony.
“What’s made in Quintana Roo is very well made,” Lezama said after handing out the distinctions to producers from across the state. The recipients included 37 from Benito Juárez, 25 from Othón P. Blanco, 15 from Playa del Carmen, seven from Puerto Morelos, five from Felipe Carrillo Puerto, five from Bacalar, two from José María Morelos, two from Lázaro Cárdenas, one from Cozumel, and one from Tulum.
“This is a historic day, an important day,” Lezama stated. “Today we award this distinction to 100 micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises. This recognition expresses something very important in this state. Your government trusts you, we bet on the talent that is born and grows in our land. MSMEs occupy a central place in the economic life of Quintana Roo. Every day they contribute effort, creativity, commitment, and development to the state.”
State Economic Development Secretary Paul Carrillo de Cáceres called the event a humanistic initiative that empowers Quintana Roo residents. “You sustain 70 to 80 percent of this state’s economy,” he said. “You are the small producers and small entrepreneurs who, together, make this state sustain its economy alongside tourism.”
Mayor Peralta reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to artisans, noting that Cancún has declared 2026 the “Year of Identity and Culture” to showcase local talent, entrepreneurial families, traditions, and the essence of the city’s residents.
Following the ceremony, officials toured stands where artisans and entrepreneurs displayed products bearing the “Made in Quintana Roo” brand. Exhibits included fine jewelry, agave tequilas, tree chili sauces, honey, propolis, coffee, artisanal soaps, snacks, textile manufacturers, sweets, crochet bags, gelato, pumpkin seeds, cream liqueurs, and honey wine.
