Quintana Roo Authorities Rule Out Fines in Vehicle Registration Operations, Urge Compliance

Chetumal, Quintana Roo — State authorities announced they will not conduct enforcement operations aimed at issuing fines to drivers who have missed deadlines for vehicle registration and ownership tax payments, instead focusing on encouraging compliance.

Efraín García Chávez, the state director of transit, explained that mobility actions will urge citizens to regularize their status rather than impose immediate sanctions. The deadline for accessing subsidies on these payments has passed.

The Finance and Planning Department (Sefiplan) is keeping the process open for taxpayers to catch up, as reasons for non-compliance vary and do not necessarily reflect a refusal to pay. From now on, those who did not complete the process on time must pay the full amounts without subsidy, calculated based on their vehicle’s invoice value.

Regarding tinted windows, officials noted that the deadline to obtain the required permit expired on March 31. The permit costs approximately 950 pesos (about $50). Individuals without this authorization may face fines starting at 870 pesos, in accordance with current regulations.

Authorities also called on citizens to report any potential abuse of authority by security or transit personnel during operations. Complaints can be made through the emergency number 911, directly to the Citizen Security Department, the Quintana Roo State Human Rights Commission (Cdheqroo), or the State Prosecutor’s Office.
