Cozumel, Mexico — The Quintana Roo Attorney General’s Office (FGE) has detained Sebastián “N” and Cristian de Jesús “N,” two municipal police officers from Cozumel, for their alleged involvement in the crime of abuse of authority. The victim’s identity has been withheld for privacy reasons.
Escalation to Homicide Investigation
The case takes a more severe turn for Cristian de Jesús “N,” who is also under investigation for his probable participation in the crime of aggravated homicide against the same victim.
The incident under scrutiny occurred on June 15, when the victim, accompanied by his two children, refused to pay for a food delivery service, prompting police intervention. According to the investigation, officers Sebastián “N” and Cristian de Jesús “N” responded to the scene at Avenida 65 and 25 Sur in the Maravilla neighborhood.
Authorities allege that after being assaulted by the victim and his children, Cristian de Jesús “N” shot the man in the leg. The victim later died from his injuries at a local hospital, an event that has deeply unsettled the community.
Legal Proceedings Underway
The officers’ legal status will be determined within the constitutional timeframe as the FGE continues its investigation to fully clarify the facts and assign responsibility to those involved.
The case has drawn significant attention amid ongoing concerns over police conduct in the region.
