Progreso, Yucatán — Quintana Roo’s delegation has secured another medal at the CONADE National Olympics 2025, with athlete Héctor Gutiérrez Paz earning a bronze in canoeing. The achievement marks the second podium finish for the state during the competition, held at the International Rowing and Canoeing Track in Progreso, Yucatán.
A Bronze Medal Performance
Gutiérrez Paz, a state-selected athlete from the community of Huay Pix, demonstrated his skill in the individual canoe (C1) 500-meter event, finishing third with a time of 2:16:18. He narrowly missed second place by three seconds, trailing behind competitors from Jalisco and the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
The Quintana Roo Commission for Sports (CODEQ), led by Jacobo Arzate Hop, has supported the athletes throughout the national event, aligning with the New Agreement for Wellbeing and Development promoted by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa.
Strong Showings Across Categories
Other Quintana Roo athletes also delivered notable performances. Yuletci Cahori Pérez Martínez competed in the U-19 C1 category, finishing fourth with a time of 2:48:02, ahead of athletes from Nuevo León, Mexico City, and Querétaro.
In the U-17 K1 event, Eva Paola Ventura Rodríguez advanced through the elimination round in third place but ultimately finished sixth in the final, missing the podium. Meanwhile, Julio César García Méndez and Kevin Otilio Cárdenas Rodríguez placed fifth in the U-19 K2 500-meter final with a time of 2:02:25. Juan Antonio Cerino Pérez also competed in the U-19 C1 category, securing sixth place.
Quintana Roo’s Medal Count Rises
The bronze medal in canoeing is the second for Quintana Roo’s team in this discipline and the 195th overall for the state delegation in the CONADE National Olympics 2025. The current tally includes 52 gold, 70 silver, and 73 bronze medals.
The competition continues as Quintana Roo’s athletes strive for further success in the national games.
