Quintana Roo, Mexico — The state of Quintana Roo ranks among the five Mexican states with the most significant reduction in intentional homicides during the first half of 2025, according to a crime incidence report released by the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System.
A 51.3% Decline in Homicides
During a press briefing, Marcela Figueroa, Executive Secretary of the National Public Security System, announced that Quintana Roo recorded a 51.3% decrease in its daily average of intentional homicides compared to the same period in 2024.
In June 2025, the national daily homicide average stood at 65.6, while Quintana Roo reported 173 cases over the six-month period, remaining below the national average.
Top Five States with the Largest Reductions
The following states led the nation in reducing intentional homicides:
- Zacatecas: –61.2%
- Chiapas: –58.2%
- Quintana Roo: –51.3%
- Tamaulipas: –50.4%
- Nuevo León: –43.7%
Additional Security Achievements
During the same presentation, Omar García Harfuch, head of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), highlighted recent security operations. Over the past 15 days, authorities have:
- Arrested 1,137 individuals
- Seized 865 firearms
- Dismantled 20 drug laboratories
- Confiscated 17 tons of narcotics
Additionally, authorities intercepted a vessel carrying 2 million liters of stolen fuel as part of ongoing efforts to combat fuel theft.
The report underscores Quintana Roo’s progress in improving public safety amid broader national efforts to reduce violent crime.
