Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo — Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz has invited children in Puerto Morelos to take part in a “Time Capsule: Write Your Letter to the Future” activity, part of the municipality’s 10th anniversary celebrations.
The initiative aims to inspire young residents to imagine, build, and leave a legacy for Puerto Morelos in 2050, while fostering creativity, identity, and love for their community.
The call is open to preschool and elementary students from public and private schools. Participants are asked to write a letter describing how they envision Puerto Morelos in 2050, including their dreams, ideas, and hopes for the town’s future.
“We want our children to let their imaginations soar and share with us how they dream of the Puerto Morelos of the future, what they wish for their municipality, and how they see a stronger, more united community with greater opportunities for everyone,” Merari said.
Letters will be selected by the 10th Anniversary Organizing Committee and placed inside a time capsule along with other objects and documents representing the municipality today. The capsule will be opened in 2050, serving as a historical legacy of the thoughts, hopes, and messages of Puerto Morelos’s children for future generations.
Requirements include that letters be handwritten in blue ink on a single sheet, and include the child’s full name, age, school, and a guardian’s phone number.
Letters can be dropped off at drop boxes installed at the Maurilio Sánchez Jiménez Municipal Library in Puerto Morelos and the Pablo Pancardo Vargas Library in Leona Vicario, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The submission period remains open until June 5. Letters will be evaluated based on creativity, spelling, clarity, and vision of the future.
