PUERTO MORELOS – With joy, passion, and immense pride, the Rebaño Chivas Soccer School was inaugurated in Puerto Morelos, a project that has already enrolled 60 children in less than a month and hopes to reach up to 140 students before the end of the year. The launch was celebrated with friendly matches against invited teams from the Comunidad de Fe church of Cancún, in a family atmosphere that reflected the essence of this initiative: to form not only soccer players, but also girls and boys with values, discipline, and big dreams.
A Dream Beginning to Take Shape
Jordan Congdon, founder of the school and with nearly a decade of promoting sports in the municipality, shared that the project seeks for every child to find in soccer a motivation to grow and a clear vision for their future. "We dream that, in a few years, one of these children will proudly represent Puerto Morelos on national stages," he expressed.
Likewise, co-founder Omar Vázquez highlighted that the project is also designed for low-income families: there will be scholarships for talented children who do not have the financial means to pay. "Soccer is for everyone, and we want no child with dreams and talent to be left out," he emphasized.
More Than Goals and Trophies
For his part, Juan Alberto Santamaría Suazo, the sports coordinator, recalled that soccer is much more than goals and trophies: "Soccer teaches us discipline, perseverance, and dedication. It is not always the most talented who wins, but the one who never stops trying." With decades linked to the sport, he now seeks to transmit that same passion through professional training, scouting events, and activities that bring the children closer to the Club Chivas of Guadalajara.
The school offers affordable monthly fees of 400 pesos, business support, and activities such as raffles for original team uniforms. The categories are open for children from 3 to 16 years old, with the goal of establishing itself as a talent incubator in the region.
Municipal Support and a Shared Passion
During the inauguration, Alexander May, Secretary of Municipal Welfare, representing Mayor Blanca Merari, reiterated the support of the Puerto Morelos City Council: "Supporting sports in our municipality is paramount. Here, citizens and future leaders are formed."
The story behind the school is one of those that warms the heart. Omar Vázquez recalls how Jordan presented the project to him: "One day he told me we would bring Chivas and asked me if I knew the club. I replied: 'Of course I know it, it's the team of my heart!'. And right then I said: 'Let's get to work'."
The school began activities on September 1 with 40 boys and girls and now has 60 enrolled. Its short-term goal is to reach between 100 and 140 students, who will be offered comprehensive training to strengthen families and the community fabric in Puerto Morelos through sports.
