Mexico City, Mexico — In a review of the year 2025 that is about to conclude, and her expectations for the next year, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo concluded that “in 2025 we did well, and in 2026 Mexico will do even better.” She detailed that she will remain at the National Palace working through the end of the year.
“The people are with the transformation, why? Because there is honesty and there are results. And we have the responsibility to continue delivering results, so that the people of Mexico live better, that we continue to reduce poverty, inequalities, that we fulfill everything we committed to and we are doing it. If we did not do it, the people would withdraw their support,” she stated this Monday during her morning press conference.
She announced that in January details of “several very relevant topics” will be presented, including how investment in public works will be guaranteed, how progress will be made on the Mexico Plan, on the Welfare programs, and on the consolidation of a health system.
“If we fulfill, continue governing with our principles, which are a maximum for us, and stay close to the people, the people will support us, that is the most important thing. And we are clear about it. And when there are demands, to be open, to always listen to the people. As I said, 2025 went well for us, and 2026 will be better,” she added.
Regarding the challenges at the start of her administration in 2025, she said that “we faced special times, but what sustains us? The love for the people. It is the hallmark of the fourth transformation: closeness, not divorcing ourselves, always being there, listening to the people and fulfilling, and guaranteeing honesty.”
Faced with cases like the Trans-Isthmian train derailment, she emphasized that it is about “facing it, with responsibility, with sensitivity and with justice.”
Furthermore, she acknowledged that 2025 “was a complex year, especially due to the entry of President Trump and the new model of world trade decided by the United States government,” among other issues, “and in all of them we have moved forward. I repeat, close to the people and fulfilling, so, we must continue working, that is the message to the cabinet.”
For the next year, she pointed out, she does not currently have any work visits outside the country scheduled.
Names Torruco as Deputy Secretary
President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo announced that she appointed former federal deputy Miguel Torruco Garza as Deputy Secretary of Violence Prevention of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection. He will occupy the position held by Esthela Damián Peralta, recently appointed legal advisor to the Federal Executive.
She recalled that Torruco – son of former Tourism Secretary Miguel Torruco Márquez – was in charge of organizing actions such as the massive boxing class in Mexico City’s Zócalo. He will now be in charge of this instance linked to the promotion of sports and culture, within the federal security strategy.
