CHETUMAL, Quintana Roo — The tranquility of last night was interrupted by a report to the 911 emergency line alerting authorities to a tragedy. The initial alert to authorities only mentioned the possible discovery of a lifeless body. What no one knew at the time was that the body was that of a woman who was four months pregnant.
After the report was made, authorities quickly arrived at the scene, where they discovered a devastating scene. Based on what was observed, it could be determined that this discovery involved a woman who took the "false exit," a term used to describe suicide. It was also confirmed that she was pregnant, though subsequent corresponding studies confirmed the pregnancy was four months along. Authorities also stated that the method by which this decision was taken was observed because the body was suspended in the air.
Details Revealed by the Investigation
Once the investigation began, it was determined that, in addition to being pregnant, the woman was 29 years old. She was found inside a residence located in the Polígono II neighborhood of Chetumal, the state capital.
It was determined that the cause of death occurred after she voluntarily cut off her air supply. Although the exact time she stopped breathing was not specified, the emergency call was made at 20:00 hours. By the time emergency services arrived at the home on Córcega Street, between Justo Sierra and Camelias, she was no longer alive.
Following this confirmation, they proceeded to notify the Quintana Roo State Attorney General's Office (FGE) to proceed with the protocol. Once other authorities arrived at the site, the corresponding procedures were carried out, and the order was given for the body to be removed. The investigation will continue when the legally required autopsy is performed.
The reasons why she made this choice are not known, but authorities will continue to investigate the act.
