The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) has announced that power has been fully restored in the southern regions of Mexico. The announcement was made early Tuesday morning via the federal agency's social media channels.
The blackout, which affected the Yucatan Peninsula, including Quintana Roo and Tabasco, was due to a malfunction at the Nuevo Pemex cogeneration plant. This failure resulted in a high level of humidity in the natural gas of the Mayakán pipeline.
The CFE, in collaboration with Petróleos Mexicanos, is working diligently to prevent similar incidents in the future. Their combined efforts aim to strengthen the stability of the electricity supply in the region.
Affected states and service recovery
The outages affected users in Campeche, Quintana Roo, Tabasco, and Yucatán.
The CFE reported early this morning that 47% of affected users had their service restored in the first few hours after the outage.
While the rest were gradually restored until reaching 100% during the early morning.
The Federal Electricity Commission and Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) continue to work on strategies to prevent similar incidents and strengthen the stability of the electricity supply in the region.
