Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Police rescued three children found unsupervised on a street in Playa del Carmen, prompting an investigation by the Specialized Group for Attention to Family and Gender Violence (GEAVIG).
Officers from the Secretariat of Public Security (SSC) responded to a report on 4th North Street between 65th Avenue and the federal highway in the Gonzalo Guerrero neighborhood.
Upon arrival, authorities confirmed the children — a boy and two girls — were alone without adult supervision. They were sitting on the sidewalk, sheltering from the sun under tree shade, apparently waiting for a relative. Neighbors noticed them and alerted authorities.
Minutes after police arrived, a woman approximately 50 years old appeared and claimed responsibility for the children. Preliminary information suggests she was selling goods as a street vendor in the area.
GEAVIG officials emphasized the importance of not leaving minors unattended, as it exposes them to various dangers. The case was handed over to GEAVIG for further investigation to ensure the children’s safety. The reasons why they were left alone remain unknown.
