Cancún, Mexico — A significant security deployment surprised workers and clients at the Estafeta shipping company in Cancún during an initiative called "Operativo Paquetería Segura" (Secure Parcel Operation). The action was implemented to curb the use of shipping companies for illicit purposes.
Personnel from the Quintana Roo Secretariat of Citizen Security, the Grupo Centurión, a canine unit, and members of the Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR) participated in the operation. The agents toured various points within the facility.
With the support of trained dogs, the officers inspected areas from the loading and unloading zones to the package delivery area, as well as administrative workers and transport vehicles. The actions included the inspection of packages ready for shipment, with the intention of detecting possible shipments of drugs, weapons, or merchandise of illegal origin.
Simultaneously, agents questioned part of the operational staff and verified documents for vehicles entering and exiting the location.
Although no seizures or confiscations were reported on this occasion, the presence of police and naval officers generated anticipation among those who came to pick up or send packages, as many were unaware that the surprise inspection was taking place.
According to unofficial sources, these operations could be repeated at other shipping companies in Cancún and nearby municipalities, as authorities seek to close one of the routes often exploited by organized crime for the transport of illegal goods.
