Playa del Carmen, Mexico — The 2nd Expocan 2025, a comprehensive event promoting canine culture, responsible pet ownership, and respect for animals, was held with great enthusiasm at the Poliforum in Playa del Carmen. In addition to exhibitions and recreational activities, the event had a charitable focus, with in-kind donations from attendees directed to the animal rescue group Acción Animal and the municipal Centro de Control Animal, Asistencia y Zoonosis.
Municipal Support for Animal Welfare
Representing Mayor Estefanía Mercado, Patricia Fajardo Sánchez, Director of Sports at the Municipal Sports Institute, reaffirmed the local government’s support for citizen-led initiatives.
“We know this project is not about financial gain but about collecting food for those in need. Playa del Carmen stands out for its love and respect for animals, which is why we support this expo to help it grow and become a regional benchmark,” Fajardo Sánchez stated.
Organizers Highlight Community Spirit
Event organizer Rubén Alberto Mejía expressed gratitude to Mayor Mercado and Alberto López, Director of the Sports Institute, for facilitating the event.
“When our animals look at us with tenderness or greet us with joy, they show not just love but the trust and vitality we provide them. Playa del Carmen is a Pet Friendly city, and today we confirm that love for animals is also a symbol of unity and respect for life,” Mejía emphasized.
Activities and Recognition
The opening ceremony included Jessica Pérez Ríos, representative of Deportes Fénix, and Joaquín Magaña from GNP Seguros, who provided a free pet insurance policy raffled among donors. Attendees also received incentives and recognition for participating in scheduled activities.
Families enjoyed dog obedience demonstrations, canine beauty contests, and competitions featuring dogs of various breeds and rescued animals.
Future Initiatives Announced
Organizers announced the upcoming Fiesta Perruna del Amor (Dog Love Party), scheduled for February, to further promote responsible pet ownership and adoption efforts.
Through initiatives like this, the Playa del Carmen government reinforces its commitment to animal protection and welfare, solidifying its reputation as a municipality that fosters respect, unity, and solidarity among families and their pets.
