Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The municipal government, led by Mayor Estefanía Mercado, reinstated the Municipal Planning Committee (COPLADEMUN) and held its fifth regular session, where officials approved federal funding allocations for 2026.

During the session, Planning and Evaluation Secretary Rolando Méndez Navarro, who coordinates the committee, presented authorized amounts for the 2026 fiscal year. He reported that the Municipal Strengthening Fund (FORTAMUN) will have a budget of 353,413,506 pesos, a slight increase from the previous year. Meanwhile, the Municipal Social Infrastructure Fund (FAISMUN) will receive 76,991,115 pesos.

Combined, both funds total approximately 430 million pesos for 2026, reflecting an overall increase from the previous year, primarily due to the rise in FORTAMUN, which offsets a decrease in FAISMUN.

Méndez Navarro clarified that “this session only presented and approved the financial ceiling, with specific project designations still pending.”

He also presented a report on funds spent for 2025 projects, noting that figures could change until the final closing date in March. According to the current report, fiscal resources totaled 87,854,175.21 pesos, FORTAMUN accounted for 326,748,384.39 pesos, and FAISMUN for 95,283,075.37 pesos.

In total, 509,885,634.97 pesos were spent, funding 24 projects and seven initiatives benefiting residents. Méndez Navarro emphasized these numbers reflect the current status and may adjust with the final closing.

Finally, he outlined key progress on the 2024–2027 Municipal Development Plan (PMD), explaining it is structured around four government pillars: Shared Prosperity, Inclusive Government, Peace Recovery, and Urban Transformation. The plan includes three cross-cutting themes, 22 action policies, and 231 action lines to be implemented during the administration.

Méndez Navarro reported that by the end of 2025, 68% of action lines were completed, with 157 of 231 lines impacted. Additionally, by the last quarter of the year, goals for action policies and strategic indicators achieved 100% compliance, while specific indicators and goals reached 90%.

During the committee reinstatement, Municipal Secretary Luis Herrera Quiam, representing Mayor Mercado, swore in COPLADEMUN members to strengthen strategic planning and promote orderly municipal development.
