Playa del Carmen, Mexico — The second edition of the revitalized Riviera Maya Jazz Fest will take place from September 15 to October 5, aiming to solidify its new format and introduce jazz music to younger generations. The festival will combine live performances with educational workshops targeting local youth and emerging artists.
A Renewed Vision for Jazz
Luis Ernesto López, the festival’s coordinator, explained that the event will span three weeks, featuring concerts and workshops designed to nurture emerging talent. “This new format not only preserves the essence of the former International Jazz Festival but also transforms it into a more community-focused initiative,” he stated.
Held at the Teatro de la Ciudad, the festival will showcase renowned performers such as the Diego Maroto Cuarteto, Cancún’s Big Band, and international vocalist Karen Souza.
López emphasized the festival’s commitment to spotlighting local artists, who will play a significant role in the programming. Additionally, workshops in music and production will be offered, particularly for young attendees interested in pursuing jazz professionally.
“We want this festival to be more than just a spectacle—it should serve as a platform for artistic growth and development for our youth,” López added.
The event marks a continued effort to broaden jazz’s appeal while fostering cultural engagement in Playa del Carmen.
