New Playa del Carmen Archway Boosts Holiday Security

The newly inaugurated archway in Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Mexico — The recently inaugurated Archway is now operating at 100 percent and will reinforce the security shield of this municipality during the December holiday season.

This was highlighted by Carlos Alberto Montesinos García, head of the Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security, during an interview conducted after the launch of the Guadalupe–Reyes operation.

In that sense, the official stated that this arch is the main axis of the reinforcement of surveillance and vehicular control during the season.

He indicated that the arch is fully linked to the C4, where agents monitor surveillance cameras and license plate readers in real time to detect vehicles with reports, unusual movements, or risk situations.

“We have order contemplated in all aspects, and any strategic point for us is very important, and of course we are going to provide security,” he added.

The secretary also called on motorists to drive responsibly, avoid alcohol consumption, and reduce risks during this season.

He emphasized that the actions to be implemented during this operation seek to prevent accidents and protect both drivers and third parties.

“Part of these operational actions seeks to prevent accidents and that locals and third parties put themselves at risk. We are going to be very attentive in that area to be able to avoid accidents from occurring,” he concluded.

The new arch is located at the northern entrance to Playa del Carmen and was inaugurated by President Estefanía Mercado and Governor Mara Lezama last October.

According to the municipal government, the arch is 60 meters long and 13.15 meters high, with 136.23 tons of structural steel and finishes in high-density polystyrene of the Piedra Maya type, with details of Mayan Warriors. Additionally, it has 15 different lighting systems, programmable through DMX technology with 512 channels, which allow dynamically changing the colors of the lights.

This work had a municipal investment of more than 40 million pesos.
