Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A drunk driver caused a serious collision that left two vehicles with extensive damage in the Gonzalo Guerrero neighborhood Friday night, municipal officials announced.
The crash occurred around 11:30 p.m. when the driver of a black Nissan Versa, traveling under the influence of alcohol, struck the side of a gray Ford Bronco at the intersection of Avenida 25 and Calle 26.
Witnesses reported the Nissan driver failed to stop at the intersection and collided directly with the SUV, deploying the Bronco’s airbags upon impact. The Nissan sustained complete front-end destruction.
The Nissan driver suffered multiple injuries in the crash and was transported to a hospital by private company paramedics. The collision blocked traffic until municipal traffic officers arrived to clear the scene.
Officers conducted an investigation to determine responsibility before removing both vehicles with a tow truck to an impound lot.
