Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A motorcyclist died and a passenger was seriously injured after crashing into a wall in the El Edén neighborhood on Saturday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. at a roundabout at the intersection of Alondra and Isla Mujeres streets. Witnesses said the motorcyclist was traveling south to north when he lost control while navigating the roundabout, veered onto the sidewalk, and collided with a wall next to a laboratory.
The impact left the passenger with severe injuries, while the driver died at the scene. Private paramedics arrived and confirmed the driver’s death before transporting the passenger to General Hospital in serious condition.
Authorities suspect the motorcyclist was speeding and possibly under the influence of alcohol. Police officers cordoned off the area until the State Prosecutor’s Office processed the scene and removed the body.
