Tulum, Quintana Roo — A shooting in the La Veleta neighborhood on Saturday afternoon left one man injured and triggered a major police operation, authorities reported.
According to preliminary reports, two individuals on an Itálika brand motorcycle opened fire on a man, who allegedly returned fire. During the exchange, the victim sustained a gunshot wound to his left arm.
After the attack, the injured man took refuge in a building on the corner of 14 Sur and 9 Sur Poniente streets in the same neighborhood.
State police officers and agents from the State Prosecutor’s Office responded to the scene, secured the injured man, and launched an operation to locate the suspected attackers.
Initial information suggests the two suspects attempted to hide in a yellow multi-unit dwelling in an area known as Casa La Veleta, between 14 and 17 Sur streets, approximately one block from the attack site.
Authorities deployed a search operation in the area as investigations continue.
