Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A national rabies vaccination campaign for dogs and cats has launched in Playa del Carmen, with officials setting up six initial modules where residents can bring their pets for free shots.
In total, 29 vaccination modules will operate in parks and community centers across Playa del Carmen and Puerto Aventuras during the campaign. On Sunday, the first day, modules opened in the neighborhoods of Xcalacoco, Nicte Ha, Colonia Colosio, Gonzalo Guerrero, and Ejido, each offering 300 doses.
Orlando García, director of Normatividad e Impacto Ambiental, said 35 staff from the Municipal Environment Department are supporting the effort. “We have personnel working to ensure the campaign runs smoothly,” he noted.
The campaign continues on Monday with modules in Nicte Ha, Luis Donaldo Colosio, Ejido, and Bellavista, the latter located at the Centro de Control Animal, Asistencia y Zoonosis (CENCAAZ). Vaccinations are available from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Residents have been seen bringing dogs on leashes and carrying cats in their arms or even market bags to facilitate the process for veterinarians.
