Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — With a packed Poliforum and the presence of state and federal authorities, Municipal President Estefanía Mercado presented her First Work Report, proclaiming that the municipality is "living the greatest transformation in its history" thanks to an unprecedented investment in infrastructure, security, health, sports, and social welfare.

Results and Long-Term Vision

Mercado reported that 900 million pesos were allocated to infrastructure, including the paving and rehabilitation of streets, the expansion of public lighting, and improvements in waste collection. The balance includes 24 completed projects and 18 currently in process, alongside a 30-year Urban Development Plan designed to guide the city's orderly growth.

In security, she highlighted an investment of 1.2 billion pesos, the highest per capita in the country, which enabled the acquisition of 452 units—including patrol cars, motorcycle patrols, tactical vehicles, armored vehicles, and a helicopter. This strategy resulted in a 35 percent reduction in intentional homicides, a 33 percent reduction in extortion, a 50 percent reduction in robberies on public transportation, a 13 percent reduction in vehicle theft, and zero kidnappings.

Social Programs and Community Development

The mayor underscored initiatives such as "Salud Sin Tanto Choro" (Health Without the Fuss), which is projected to provide care for more than 60,000 citizens, and "Playa Llena, Corazón Contento" (Full Beach, Happy Heart), which benefits three thousand families monthly. In coordination with the state DIF system, the municipal DIF provided support to more than 200,000 people.

In the realm of sports, the local government rehabilitated 25 public spaces and provided maintenance for 1,590 courts and sports domes, impacting more than 1.4 million users. In culture and tourism, Playa del Carmen solidified its position as an epicenter for shows in Quintana Roo and strengthened its international profile with the creation of a City Brand, positioning itself as the "Touristic Epicenter of the Mexican Caribbean."

Recognition and Message to the Citizenry

Accompanied by Governor Mara Lezama, Deputy Renán Sánchez, and Magistrate Heyden Cebada Rivas, as well as representatives from the business and academic sectors, Mercado emphasized the support from state and federal governments and the citizenry: "This is not the government of one person, it is the government of a town that works as a team and has decided to transform Playa del Carmen."

The municipal president concluded her report with a message of commitment: "People will not remember us for how we started, but for how we finish. The goal is to be the best government in the history of Playa del Carmen."
