Cancún, Quintana Roo — A new pink tequila brand launched in Cancún this week with a dual mission: to enter the premium spirits market and to support cancer-fighting organizations in Mexico.
Tequila Santa María, a reposado made from 100% blue agave, debuted at an intimate event at the South Beach Club in Puerto Cancún. The brand, spearheaded by entrepreneur Miriam Escalante, will donate a percentage of each bottle’s sales to associations providing comprehensive care for women with cancer.
“This project honors my mother and all the women of Mexico,” Escalante told attendees. “The pink tequila concept is about creating awareness and contributing to this cause.”
The tequila is produced from Agave Tequilana Weber grown in the highlands of Jalisco, with an eight-year maturation process. It undergoes slow fermentation for 72 hours and double distillation before aging for eight months in French white oak barrels that previously held red wine from California’s Napa Valley.
This unique aging method, which doesn’t involve charring or toasting the wood, preserves natural oils and imparts fruity notes that give the spirit its distinctive pink hue. The sensory profile begins with herbal and citrus agave notes, evolving into sweet vanilla and caramel flavors at 40% alcohol by volume.
During the launch event, guests participated in a “catamaridaje” tasting experience that paired the tequila with aged cheeses from European-style underground cellars. The combination highlighted contrasts between the cheeses’ salinity and the spirit’s natural sweetness.
Backed by more than 20 years of agave cultivation experience, Tequila Santa María is now available through its official Instagram account and at major Mexican airports.
